Feeling creaky at 35?

If you’re anything like me then you know the feeling of waking up in the morning and gingerly getting out of bed. Your lower back feels stiff and quite frankly you feel way older than your years. This was literally me up until 3 years ago.

See I didn’t realise that our spine and how it feels is largely determined by our hips and how they feel and have been treated. Duh, I mean, they’re all connected, BUT, and it’s a big one (hence the all caps) the thing is what are you doing to hep your hips.

I’m sure you’re stretching your hams and quads and working on spinal flexibility but if you’ve forgotten all about your hips and how to open them then big phat no. Yes, you’ll have more mobility and be able to touch your toes but you’ll still be waking up gingerly in the morning.

So what do you do? First off I want you to really think about how you move your hips. Are you a lean to one side kinda person as you get off the sofa or a two feet planted and up you go. Next I want you to think about your daily seating position. At a desk? Which, by the way, will shorten those hip flexors and that’s a big phat no too.

Try this instead…before you get out of bed in the morning bring your knees out to your armpits, hold onto your shins and make circles with your back rolling around all 4 compass points. Next I want you to put your feet on the floor, about a hands length away from your bum, and do some sacrum rolls. If you’re not sure what these are then head here to my YouTube channel and watch!

Do this for 5 days and if you notice an improvement come over and join my 14 Day Hip Opening Pilates Programme.
